A bill that would give more Peachtree City seniors a break on their property taxes is headed to Gov. Kemp’s desk with the strong backing of Peachtree City Mayor Kim Learnard.

H.B. 703 passed the Senate unanimously on a 53-0 vote Friday. It also passed the House unanimously 165-0, with Mayor Learnard present for the vote.

The bill amends the homestead exemption for low income seniors in Peachtree City. It doubles the income cap from $30,000 to $60,000, and increases the value of the exemption from $5,000 up to $30,000 of the assessed value.

Homeowners over the age of 65 who make less than $60,000 annually will qualify, as long as they occupy their property as primary residence.

The effort was set into motion by Mayor Learnard and the City Council via a resolution passed in 2024.

“I am proud to support our seniors with these tax breaks. I want to thank chief sponsor Josh Bonner (R-73) and our entire local delegation for working with us to get this legislation passed,” Mayor Learnard said. “This will make a big difference for many of our citizens.”

In accordance with the law, Peachtree City voters will have their chance to officially accept the measure at the ballot box in the Nov. 4, 2025 general election.
